Discovering My Passion: How I Found My Calling in Property Management

After college, I briefly worked in bookkeeping and accounting. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the cubicle lifestyle was not for me. I’ve always been interested in real estate and enjoyed working with different kinds of people. I wanted an environment where every day is different, and property management felt like the perfect way to combine my interests and skills.

A Day in the Life at Palladian: Embracing the Unexpected

A typical day at Palladian is never quite the same. Outside of unexpected things popping up, I like to meet with the team to recap what is happening for the day or what leasing should know from a maintenance standpoint for residents or prospects. Emails, Teams, and Knock are a morning priority. I’m big on writing things in my planner – not only to stay organized but it feels good to cross things off! We usually get a couple of visits from our frequent-flyer doggies and delivery people, too. At some point every day, I walk different portions of the property to familiarize myself with floorplans and vacants, or any areas that a new set of eyes may see some attention needed.

The Joys of Property Management: Building Connections and Community

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the connection we form with residents, from the leasing process through their time living at the community. Knowing that you helped them choose their new home and that they actually love it is very fulfilling. When they attend events and say they had a great time or stop by the office to share some good news in their life, it really makes you feel like you are doing more than just “your job”.

Engaging with Residents: Creating a Welcoming Environment at Palladian

In my short time at Palladian, I’ve taken the opportunity to respond quickly to emails and introduce myself. For the residents that stop by the office, I always try to speak with them for a moment so they can get used to the new face. I plan to host a Wine Down Wednesday in the coming weeks for a better opportunity to meet more people and let them know I may be new to Palladian, but I’m loyal to NWR and not going anywhere!

Essential Skills for Property Management Success: Communication, Organization, and More

Strong communication and organization skills are probably the two most important things that will carry over into any situation. Problem-solving and not panicking when having to change course quickly are essential. Being able to understand the basics of finances, ledgers, and Excel is also super helpful.

Why I Love Working at Palladian: A Team That Cares

I think we have a great team here at Palladian. It has been evident that everyone cares about the community and comes to work wanting to do their job to the best of their ability.

Considering a Career in Property Management? Here’s My Advice

If you’re considering a career in property management, be sure that you enjoy customer service. All things office-related can be taught, but if you do not enjoy talking to people, you will not enjoy this industry. Also, try to perfect as many different roles as possible. Things sometimes change rapidly, so you never know where something you’ve become good at can become useful.

Preparing for a Property Management Role: Tips for Aspiring Professionals

Start by getting to know the policy well. So much of the ACM role and CM role are helping other team members adhere to policy, so that would be a great place to start. Practice organization and time management. Consider what type of leadership style works best for you.

Balancing Work and Life: My Hobbies and Interests Outside of Property Management

Outside of work, my week normally consists of working out, cooking, binge-watching a Netflix series, and trying to find activities that get my 10-month-old daughter out of the house.

Why Palladian is Special: Fostering a Sense of Community

I feel lucky to have been chosen for this property and I look forward to continuing to foster the sense of community I’ve already felt here in just a few days.
